Swinging in the breeze | Unique Mobile Sculpture
A unique one off sculptural piece exploring movement, balance and freedom.
A small blue bird sits lightly above a simple sculptural vase, surrounded by two delicate plant stems. The central element is designed as a working mobile, allowing the sculpture to swing and gently pivot from the top ring, so the piece changes subtly as it moves.
The combination of curved metal lines, the soft blue bird and the aged turquoise water in the vase below gives the sculpture a quiet, playful character. I particularly like the way the bird appears to be perched in a moment of movement, as though it has just landed or is about to take flight.
Like many of my sculptures, the piece is made by hand in my Newhaven studio, combining metalwork, hand formed elements and mixed media. Its movement means that it is never quite the same from one moment to the next.
